This cake was super simple to make.
I bought a red velvet cake mix from the grocery store and prepared it according to the package directions. The flavor of the cake didn't matter all that much, the birthday girl simply loves red velvet.
I poured the mix into a Bundt pan and also baked it according to the directions. When the cake was finished I let it cool and removed it to a decorative platter I bought at Dollar Tree.
I took Oreo cookie pieces and sprinkled them on and around the cake. The cookies looked like dirt and rocks. Then I drizzled on some cream cheese icing which I also purchased and then dyed bright reddish orange to resemble lava.
We added some dry ice in the center for a smoke effect and then topped the whole thing off with candles. It was a hit. We also made individual Bundt cakes for each of the guests, prepared the same way, minus the ice.
