Stuck On How To Make A Stage For An Oscar Party

I am holding an oscar/popstar party and I want to make a stage to hold my 'awards ceremony' on. I need ideas on what to use to make the stage that won't break when we stand on them and I don't need to go and buy. i can only think of a table (can't perform on - too small) and plastic food crates (probably not strong enough if we are dancing around on them, plus they are too bumpy and might hurt to stand on) Please help!
