New Years Party Ideas – Out With The Old And In With The Pink!

New Years party ideas are a great way to see in the New Year. New Year is all about out with the old and in with the new. So what better way to bring in the New Year than in Pink Heaven party style!

For party ideas for New Years Eve you can either just have a gathering of people round to see in the New Year or you can party in style with these Pink Heaven themed ideas:

new years party ideas
  • Masquerade Ball - Perfect for older guests but still fun for the little ones.
  • Fairytale – If you have a lot of younger guest coming to the party this can be a magical theme (see princess party ideas or fairy party ideas). You could also have the the kids dressed up earlier on in the evening then moving on to the masquerade ball later on for the teens and adults.
  • Your Town Party – Celebrate your home town by hosting a party all about it. Is there something your town is known for? If you’re a close community this can be a fun party with everyone getting in on the planning.
  • Famous City Party – Base your party on a famous city such as New York or Paris with party supplies from the USA or UK.
  • New Years of the Past or Future – Pick a year, past or present, and theme your party around a memorable event (or made up event, if in the future).

A New Years party idea to remember, though, is if you have really young children they may not be able to stay up long enough to see in the New Year so plan to have some activities for them earlier on in the evening and get them involved in the planning so they don’t feel left out.

INVITATIONS

There are many party invitation ideas for New Year such as ‘2009’, champagne glasses, clocks or party hats. But a really cool New Years party ideas is to make masquerade masks.

Don’t leave it till too late to decide, though, as there will be many parties on New Years Eve so make sure you don’t leave your invites till the last minute or your guests would have made other plans.

Using strong card draw a large ‘2009’ in bubble writing. Cut along the outline and then cut out the inside of the two ‘0’s, these will form the eye holes. Stick a straw or stick on the one side for the guest to hold the mask and then decorate using pink, silver, stars, glitter, sequins feathers or whatever you want, as long as it sparkles!

On the back you can then write the details of the party:

“2008 was a great year. But 2009 is going to be even better so come and welcome the New Year in with the (family name) family.

Starting at (time of party) 2008 partying right through till 2009 with plenty of entertainment, food and drink. Celebrate the end of the year in style!”

DECORATIONS

Many of you will still have your Christmas decorations up for party ideas for New Years Eve so if you opted for the Winter Wonderland pink and silver theme there will not be a lot more that you need to add for New Years party ideas.

If you are going for the fairytale or city themes add party decoration ideas from these themes such as fairytale castles or the New York skyline. Here is a list of basic theme decorations:

fireworks
  • Fringed Garlands
  • Star Swirl Decorations
  • A large ‘Welcome to 2009’ Banner
  • Other ‘2009’ themed party wear such as plates, cups etc. Although you can always stick with the pink and silver theme.
  • Plastic champagne glasses also come in handy for everyone to toast in the New Year - a commerative New Years party idea.
  • And, of course, party hats, balloons, streamers and party poppers.
  • Cover the table in a pink tablecloth and have a silver star shaped centerpiece with silver star shaped confetti

You could also have fireworks at the end of the night to enter 2009 with a bang!

FANCY DRESS

Fancy dress costumes can be based on the theme of the night or can just be anything anyone wants to wear. For New Years party ideas anything goes!

Some memorable New Years Eve costume ideas are:

  • Masquerade Masks (glitter, cats, feathers, jeweled, lace or sequins.)
  • Fairytale Princesses
  • Fairytale Characters (Wizard of Oz, Little Bo Peep, Little Red Riding Hood)
  • Mardi Gras Costume
  • Luau Costumes

FOOD AND DRINK

If your New Years Eve party is starting early evening and you don’t have that many guests it may be a good option to have a sit down dinner party. If your party isn’t starting till quite late or you have a lot of guests a buffet will probably be all you need.

If you are starting early and have a lot of guests a New Yeas party idea would be to have BBQ first then have a buffet later as guests are going to be getting hungry again later on. Just leave a table full of delicious snacks for people to pick at throughout the night served on New Years Eve party platters:

pink champagne
  • ’2009’ cookies
  • Mini buffet favorites (such as sandwiches, pasties, quiches, pizzas and chocolate éclairs)
  • Vol-au-vents
  • Chips and dips
  • Cold meat buffet
  • Salted nuts
  • Chicken sate with peanut sauce
  • Crab cakes
  • Popcorn
  • Corn on the cob
  • Black eyed peas (which are a tradition on New Years Eve as they are said to bring wealth for the year ahead!)
  • Pink champagne (non-alcoholic for the younger ones!)

ENTERTAINMENT

With all that time from when your party starts until midnight, you’re going to need activities to keep the all of the guests, from the youngest to the oldest, entertained.

Here is a selection of New Years party games that the Pink Heaven Party Angel suggests to bring the fun to your New Years party ideas:

  • Guess Who – Everyone writes their New Years resolution down on a piece of paper and then they get folded up and put into a party hat. Pass the hat around and everyone gets a turn to read out the resolution whilst everyone else must guess who’s resolution it is.
  • Predict the Future – Can anyone guess what this New Year will bring. Remember to write the predictions down to review next year. Will anyone be right?
  • Make a Time Capsule – A great activity for the younger kids. Get them to get together small items that remind them about things that happened in 2008 and put them in a box. You can get them out again next year or maybe in five years time!
  • Guess the Date – Before the party go onto a news website that gives you the highlights of the year (or trawl through some archives). Print these headlines and stories out and then get everyone to guess what date or month they happened on.
  • Charades – An all time favorite
  • Clock Craft – Another one for the little Pink Heaven Party Angels. Make a clock out of a paper plates ready for when the clock strikes 12.
  • Glass Craft – Using champagne glasses (plastic for the younger ones) get everyone to make their own ‘2009’ decorations on the glass, using glass paint and embellishments.
  • Parade – Get everyone together and parade around the neighbourhood, gathering more people as you go. Pop party poppers and wish everyone a Happy New Year!
  • Disco - Playing classics from throughout the year or geting the different generations to teach each other dances from their eras is a fun New Years party idea.

Using a party top hat or a pink or silver glitter bag put in some gifts and treats as New Years party ideas for party favors:
